McFarlane is now a very important company in the toy industry that has created toys based of lots of  pop-culture franchises such as The Simpsons, Star Trek, Stranger Things, Lost, The Walking Dead, Metal Gear Solid, Avatar, Akira, Naruto, Attack on Titan, and many toys based on real life personalities such as The Beatles, Kiss, Elvis Presley, Rob Zombie, and Slash, to name a few.

Todd McFarlane has incorporated many of his personal passions and interests into his toys, such as his passion for the horror genre. In 1997,  McFarlane Toys produced the “Todd McFarlane’s Monsters Playsets.” This line included popular characters from horror stories and legends such as Dracula, Frankenstein, Quasimodo, and a Werewolf. The line was so loved among horror fans and Toy Collectors, not only because of the look of the characters, but also because of the unique gruesome accessories that came with each set. Since then, McFarlane has created other McFarlane Monsters Playsets and has produced licensed horror characters such as Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface and The Thing.

Another one of Todd McFarlane’s interests, which he has incorporated into his toys is sports. The company has official licensing rights to the major professional leagues of all five major North American sports and began this line, officially known as McFarlane Sports Picks, in 2001.
